Vintage-worthy, Aromatic
Physical Attributes:
- Shape: Small, round to conical
- Skin: Dark red over a green base
- Flesh: Blushed, fast oxidizer
Flavour:
Leathery, musky “orchard floor” aromas, with a “vintage worthy” profile of flavours and deeply coloured, moderate yield juice. Can present a smoky, asphalt aroma when grown in stressed conditions.
Neat History:
Traditional French bittersweet apple from Brittany. 19th century. It is one of the required cultivars for crafting Calvados, and its alternative name literally translates as “bitter.”
