Elstar
Honeyed -Sweet/Sharp
This apple was developed in the Netherlands in the 1950s and has become a widely, and commercially grown varietal in Europe. The Elstar is a large, dessert apple, that has a honey-like sweetness, with a well-balanced acidity. This varietal produces an apple with an intensely red colouration over top of a scantly visible golden-yellow background. The skin is also marbled and glossy. The apple has moderate crispness. This is primarily a fresh eating apple, however has been picked up by some cider-makers due to its well-balanced flavour style. Crops Heavy.
