Physical Attributes:
- Shape: Medium, oblate
- Skin: Yellow with red blush and streaks. Some russeting from the top.
- Flesh: Greenish-white, grainy
Flavour:
Very aromatic with typical West-Country “barnyard, orchard-floor” aromas and a deep amber, bittersweet juice. Quite a strong flavour.
Neat History:
Sometime in the 19th century near Martock, Somerset England, 19th century. The name may come from the old English/Germanic word chesil which means pebble, and “jersey” is applied to bittersweet cultivars from Somerset.
