[Acid-med; Sugar-med]
Cider, Juice, Culinary
Sweet, Sharp, Aromatic, Effervescent
This varietal originated in France in the mid-1500s, and is the classic dessert apple of French cuisine, as well as an excellent component for cider-blends. The apple is a medium to large sized knobbly bottomed, pale, yellow/green fruit, with a light red blush. Its flavour is sharp, but balanced with a mild sweetness, and has an exquisite flavour that some even describe as spiced. It is also unusually high in Vitamin C. Average disease resistance. Medium vigour. Medium and temperamental cropper.
